Not long after I started a consistent practice, I took a trip to Kauai with my daughter Lorelei to hike the Kalalau Trail on the Nā Pali Coast — my one bucket-list dream from childhood.

But what was supposed to be a dream turned into a near-death experience. I slipped and found myself literally hanging from a cliff, weighed down by my over-packed backpack, while Lorelei stood helpless nearby, surrounded by goats.

In that terrifying moment, my brain went into overdrive. I remember thinking, If I let go, what happens to her?

I debated unhooking my pack, but we needed it to survive. Somehow — with bulldog determination and what felt like the strength of every class I’d ever taken — I managed to get a leg up and pull myself to safety.

I thanked those goats for their energy the rest of the way.

When I got home, I had a profound sense of gratitude — for my life, for my daughter, and for the yoga practice that had prepared my body and mind for that moment.

I knew then that I wanted to share this gift with others. I reached out to Jonalyn and told her I wanted to become a teacher.

Yoga gave me my life back.

Struggle is part of the practice — and part of life. The struggle makes us stronger, more resilient, and more grateful.

Suffering, though, is optional. We can choose how we see the struggle — as pain or as an opportunity for growth.

When you shift your perspective and embrace the beauty in the hard moments, you unlock the power to transform your life both inside and outside the hot room.

I love this practice. I believe in the power of showing up daily — or as often as you can. My hope is that my students feel supported, encouraged, and empowered each time they step on their mat.

Because this class isn’t just about flexibility, strength, and mobility — it’s about training your mind.

We do the tough stuff in the room so that we can face the tougher challenges outside of it.

That’s the journey — from pain to paradise.

WORDS OF WISDOM

This week Tiffany shares with us one of her favorite quotes:

“You can’t go back and make a new start. But you can start right now and make a brand new ending” — James R. Sherman.

This quote speaks to the freedom we all have in the present moment.

No matter where we’ve been or what we wish we’d done differently, right now is our opportunity to choose again, take action, and create the ending we want.
