HABITS OVER MOTIVATION
Motivation can get us started, but it’s consistency that creates lasting change.
The small decisions we make repeatedly—showing up, practicing, and keeping promises to ourselves—eventually become habits. And those habits can shape far more than our practice; they can change how we feel, how we think, and how we move through life.
You don’t have to feel motivated every day. What matters is building a rhythm that makes showing up a part of who you are.
This week, we’re sharing the final five tips from Karen J.’s journal of “best practices.”
Her thoughtful and detailed observations are a reminder that progress often comes from paying attention to the small things and continuing to show up for yourself.
Read on for Karen’s final five tips and a few reminders that can make a difference both on and off the mat.
“1 . Consider a stainless steel water bottle vs plastic bottles. The health science shows the risks associated with plastic, especially if it has been stored in a car with sun exposure.
2 . If you notice someone’s mat is awkwardly placed and everyone else’s is placed partially over the brown line.
It’s a good chance, they are a new student. Take a quick second to help them. We are all better for the small gestures of kindness.
3 . Listen and follow the dialogue. When you hear “take one step, back to the center of your mat” How many steps did you take?
Are your hands in prayer position, before instruction during standing leg?
It might seem a bit strict, yet it’s the ability to pay attention to small details and following instructions that propels gains in the studio and outside the studio.
4 . The more you show up for YOU, the more the people who love you will see the growth. You will inspire others, more than you realize. Be proud of your courage, strength and determination.
5 . Leave today’s 90 minutes on the mat. Your sweat and effort speaks volumes, no explanations needed. Learn to be your biggest cheerleader.”
Thank you, Karen, for sharing the deep insight and wisdom from your practice with our community.
