Finding Meditation in the Practice
This week, we’re sharing the next five of Karen J.’s 20 tips. Karen gives us a closer look at the details of her practice that help her stay focused and maximize her experience in the hot room.
She doesn’t share these as a blueprint to follow, but rather as a guide into the depth and detail that can transform a practice into something much more meditative.
Take a look at the next five ways Karen approaches her practice, and see if any of them inspire you to explore your own.
“1. During standing series, avoid sitting to take a water break. Create new habits to shed old ones.
2. Avoid eating 2-3hrs before start of class, so you don’t get that upset stomach feeling once your body begins to warm up.
3. Arrive at least 15 mins ahead of class, so you don’t feel rushed. If you tend to arrive last minute or on a regular basis in your daily routines, do a self assessment , the pattern could be the answer to missed opportunities.
4. Pay attention to where you set up your mat. Are you obstructing someone’s view? Are you able to see your beautiful self?
5. Place your water bottle in the upper left hand corner of your mat. It will be easily accessible at all times. You won’t be blocking others view during the floor series.”
