teacher spotlight

In honor of back-to-school season, we’re spotlighting one of our amazing yoga and IHP teachers.

This week, we’re sharing Cheryl’s story and the journey that brought her to The Vibe.

“My name is Cheryl Nalls, and after 26½ years chasing bad guys and drowning in paperwork with the Los Angeles Police Department, I hung up my badge in 2015 as a Detective III Supervisor.

I packed up, moved to Northern California to be closer to family, and fully embraced my new mission in life: doing absolutely nothing.

And for a while it was glorious.  No more investigations, no deadlines, no chaos… just me, my couch, and the sweet sound of zero responsibility.

But here’s the plot twist:

Doing nothing has side effects. My knees, hip, and elbow started aching like they were auditioning for a medical drama.

Jogging became a distant memory. The scale crept up 17 pounds to be exact and I could no longer pretend it was just the lighting.

As a breast cancer survivor, I knew I couldn’t ignore the signs. At 55, some days I felt like I needed a senior discount.

My doctor casually suggested, “Do yoga,” as if it were as simple as ordering a latte.

So, I did what any good detective would do. I investigated.  My search led me to Bikram Yoga Tracy.

In 2018, I unrolled a mat, stepped into that 105-degree room, and immediately wondered if I had accidentally signed up for a sauna interrogation.

But here’s the thing I survived. Sweaty, sore, and slightly stunned… yet something shifted that day.

I felt stronger.

Clearer.

Hopeful.

And I kept coming back.

Fast forward to today, I now teach both Bikram Yoga and Inferno Hot Pilates.

Both modalities compliment each other and is the perfect pairing for my workout journey.

My body moves better, my mind is calmer, and my health is no longer something I take for granted.

Bikram yoga and Inferno Hot Pilates didn’t just help me feel better it gave me my life back.

If you’ve been putting yourself last… if the aches and pains are getting louder… if you want to feel strong and alive again… keep joining me.”

She has a gift for making people feel welcomed, encouraged, and capable of more than they thought possible.

Her dedication to this practice and to the people who walk through our doors is something we’re incredibly grateful for.

Whether she’s teaching, mentoring, encouraging, or simply being Jonalyn, she brings her whole heart to our community.

Please join us in wishing Jonalyn a very happy birthday! We hope her day is filled with all the love, laughter, and joy she so generously gives to others.

Happy Birthday, Jonalyn! We’re so grateful for you and everything you bring to The Vibe.
